the biggest mistake of my life was deleting all the “bonus tracks” from every Kinks album when I first got into them. I downloaded a torrent years ago with every album and was intimidated by all the songs in each release. So I deleted all the extended edition songs except for their self-titled album (I don’t know why). I listened to the self-titled album it again yesterday with the bonus tracks and realized how amazing everything* they’ve done is.
So now I’m in the process of downloading all their albums over again just to have those songs.

I really wanted to put together a bunch of songs that I think are perfect for summer. Now, these might be songs that everyone has heard or has heard different songs by these artists. That’s fine. I didn’t want to be a pretentious jerk and put a mix of songs together that no one has ever heard of. All of these songs are Beatles-esque, throwback 60s songs that anyone with ears will be sure to enjoy!
- Care of Cell 44 - The Zombies
- She Is Still A Mystery - The Lovin’ Spoonful
- (What A) Wonderful World - Herman’s Hermits
- Good To My Baby - The Beach Boys

- Do You Believe In Magic - The Lovin’ Spoonful
- You Do Something To Me - The Kinks
- There’s A Kind of Hush (All Over The World) - Herman’s Hermits
- New Kind of Neighborhood - Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers
- Girl Don’t Tell Me - The Beach Boys

The Kinks - Something Better Beginning
They said this was the last dance
The lights went dim as I looked round the floor
Then I saw you standing there
Then I walked up to you and I asked for this dance
The band had started to play
I held you hand and I sighed
Is this the start of another heart breaker
Or something better beginning
Something better beginning
Something better beginning
I never thought I’d love like this until I met you
I found something I thought I’d never had
The only time I feel all right is when I’m with you
I wonder how long it will last
I walked you home in the night
The moon shone bright as we walked hand in hand
I’ve known this joy once before
But it came to an end just as it had began
Each step that I took with you
Brought one thing closer to my mind
Is this the start of another heart breaker
Or something better beginning
Something better beginning
Something better beginning
The Raincoats - Lola (Kinks Cover)
I got this of their re-released self-titled album (put out on Kill Rock Stars). I’m just going to put it out there - this version is better than the original. There are a lot of bands coming out now that sound a lot like the Raincoats (The Splinters, Grass Widow), and the Raincoats will always be musically relevant. Love these ladies!
Yep, definitely better than the original. Kinks fans, deal with it.
I discovered The Kinks by just listening to their albums not fucking singles like apparently every other person in the world who’s ever listened to The Kinks has. So Lola was just ‘another song’. After looking into them I learned that it was a single, not that it mattered because it didn’t influence my opinion on it but I never knew why that song would have been chosen over anything off the original LP. Without regard, I kind of like this cover. Sounds very twee. :)
